Inner Homestead Coaching

My sister’s cancer was gone. It was time to take care of myself again.

At the end of 2023, I was pretty sure I was done having kids. My business was starting and seemed promising. And finally my last huge stressor, my sister’s cancer, was officially in remission. I was out of excuses for losing the weight. I mean, there were still plenty of excuses out there - being an entrepreneur, working for the Air Force Reserves, having 5 kids, being married, having in-laws, running my little homestead - but I decided those things weren’t changing any time soon. And still,

I wanted my extra weight GONE.

I started listening every day to a podcast that fellow physician moms had been recommending to me for years. I learned about life coaching. Little by little, I made the changes that got me here. At my goal weight, 30 pounds down, feeling awesome, with ever-improving relationships with my husband, kids, and family. I’ve found myself better able to cope with the stressors of owning my own business and single-handedly supporting a family of 7.

In short, I loved coaching.

And anything that I LOVE, I tend to pass on to my patients. Soon I had numerous folks coming in every single month, for a whole hour at a time, just for coaching. But that’s not what my clinic was set up for. This wasn’t sustainable. I needed time to treat coughs and colds, too!

Something had to change.

That’s when I created this separate coaching program. I’ll still use lots of coaching tools and motivational interviewing techniques for my regular Direct Primary Care patients, but for those that want extra attention of an intensive program, there’s Inner Homestead Coaching.

What is coaching?

Google says it’s a collaborative process where a trained professional helps individuals identify and achieve goals. To me, it’s delving into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT, one of the best studied and most successful tools of mental health, to a degree that I’ve never seen done before. It’s a lot of asking rhetorical questions but expecting answers. It’s a lot of waiting for sticky situations to come up in life, and bringing them up to your coach for help in dealing with them better.

What do I get in this program?

  • Fully trained family physician as your guide in dietary modifications and setting weight plans

  • A slot in a limited capacity program to guarantee access and attention

  • 2 half hour or 1 full hour in-person (or virtual) one-on-one coaching sessions per month

  • Access to our anonymous virtual community to discuss daily struggles and successes, learning from others, as well as texting-style written coaching throughout the month

  • Monthly and weekly check ins to encourage SMART goals that you actually accomplish

  • Daily prompts to guide your own thought work

  • Help navigating the cravings and food chatter in your mind that are holding you back

  • A real solution to permanent weight loss by working on your MIND instead of just your body

  • Science based solutions to keeping the weight off with healthier hormones based in daily habits

  • Recommendations for future success in books and podcasts

What is NOT in this program?

  • Counting calories or points or taking photos of every meal or making your food obsession WORSE

  • A meal plan that everyone has to stick to or else it won’t work

  • Excessive exercise routines that you don’t have the energy, willpower, or time for

  • The same old calories in/calories out mentality that hasn’t worked for decades

What is your health worth to you?
